Tunnelling Consultant GmbH is based in Lahr in the Black Forest and was founded in 2008 by Dr.-Ing. Ulrich Rehm. As an international specialist in mechanized tunneling, Dr.-Ing. Ulrich Rehm, operating as a sole proprietor, offers flexible consulting services to investors, construction companies, planning and consulting firms, as well as courts, law firms, and machine manufacturers worldwide.
Dr. Ulrich Rehm studied civil engineering at the renowned Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), specializing in soil and rock mechanics. After receiving his diploma, he earned his doctorate at the Institute for Technology and Management in Construction (TMB) at KIT.
For the following ten years, he gained practical experience in all areas of mechanized tunneling at the market leader Herrenknecht AG. As head of the Geotechnical Engineering and Research & Development departments, as well as a global sales consultant, Dr. Rehm worked on all five continents and played a key role in shaping technical developments.
His expertise encompasses tunneling in both hard rock and soft ground—ranging from very small to very large diameters (see references)—utilizing the full spectrum of tunnel boring machine types employed on the global market.
He shares his knowledge through national and international lectures, seminars, master's programs, and committees. From 2005 to 2010, he also taught mechanized and conventional tunneling to master's students at the Stuttgart University of Applied Sciences (HfT). He is currently a lecturer in the Master's program in Technology and Management in Construction (Master TMB), specializing in tunneling, at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT).
His diverse international experience has also given him insights into a wide range of cultures and mentalities, which play a crucial role in technical consulting – because it's always about people, too.
